The prizes will be remitted the March 21 2009

A jury of three persons known for their engagements in the field of photography and human rights will determine the photojournalism Grand prize.

An evaluation grid will be established so that the jury can make the most objective and systematic selection possible. The reportages will be assessed according to thematic, aesthetical impact and general coherence.

François Bugingo is president and spokesperson for Reporters without borders Canada. He has worked for many international institutions, among them, UNESCO. He has also been spoke person for Amnesty International during the International Year for Refugees. Analyst and columnist on international matters at Radio-Canada and Radio-Canada International, François Bugingo is moderator for the Télé-Québec program Points chauds.
   
 

 

This Montreal photographer is known for his photo essays on great humanitarian and environmental causes, such as: Nemagon, the carcinogenic pesticide that wrought havoc on the banana workers, the rapid thawing of ices in the Canadian Great North and the desertification in China. Benoit Aquin has exhibited in several galleries and received numerous awards among them recently the prestigious Pictet Prize for works related to sustainable development.
   
 

 

Pierre Pascal is chief editor and publisher at Passe-Frontière, a francophone magazine published in 25 000 copies in France, Switzerland, Belgium and Québec.
   
 

 

Mary Ellen Davis is a documentary film director. Among her works figure Haunted Land and The Devil’s Dream. She teaches film production at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema (Fine Arts Faculty, Concordia University). Her last documentary, Territories, tells the life of Larry Towell, famous photographer only Canadian member of the legendary Magnum Photos agency.
   
 

 

Roy Hartling holds a Masters Degree of Fine Arts from Concordia University. He is known for his high quality artistic work frequently exhibited in famous galleries throughout Canada. He currently teaches at Dawson College.
